Plattar V2 Renderer

This document outlines the necessary guides and steps required to migrate from Plattar’s legacy V1 Renderer onto the new V2 Renderer.

V2 Renderer comes packed with performance improvements and new SDK’s, API’s, Scripting Frameworks and features that are backwards incompatible with the legacy system.

In order to take advantage of these new features, a migration of existing projects is required.

The legacy system will continue to be maintained until 31 August 2022 whereupon it will be deprecated. As of launch, no new features will be developed on the legacy system.

Migration Guides

  • 3D Viewers and Embeds
  • Legacy Scripts
  • Events Frameworks

List of new features

  • Plattar Executable Scripting

Plattar Executable (PEX) Scripting allows defining new renderer components and custom logic entirely from the Plattar CMS using JavaScript, opening the doors to a vast array of new use-cases and possibilities.

  • Viewer & Embed SDK

plattar-web open-source SDK allows easy embedding of Plattar viewers and AR functionalities onto existing websites.

  • Performance Improvements

The new Renderer framework utilizes a modular build architecture which only loads the things that it needs to run. This provides further stability, robustness and loading speed improvements.

  • Event Framework

The Renderer utilizes a new, in-house designed context-messenger framework that allows interoperability with existing JavaScript or TypeScript functionality in a robust and consistent manner.

  • Apple Quicklook

The Renderer is fully interoperable with Apple’s USDZ and Reality file formats. The first feature we are launching is the ability to create face-tracking experiences running natively using Apple’s Quicklook.

  • API Tools

The backend API has been modernised to become interoperable using the plattar-api SDK. This allows creating AR experiences using backend systems outside of Plattar.
